An interesting article from the White house website.
Detailing attacks against hardware.

The document outlines details of malware being deliberately installed into hardware/software that is destined for US markets.
From personal experience in Chinese factories manufacturing various electronic products, I can say I have seen situations where malware has been deliberately loaded onto devices prior to shipping, in many cases it is not coordinated by the factories themselves but by individuals in the Engineering/test departments of these companies.
For whatever reason these individuals are contaminating the devices with software/modifications that allow the device to be exploited.
Two particular devices come to mind, which are Photo frames and USB Nand-flash storage devices, I have example hardware of both these devices, that have been loaded with mal-ware.
