Not sure where to put this, but the A8 Cortex manual can be had here -

http://infocenter.arm.com/help/topic/com.arm.doc.ddi0344f/DDI0344F_cortex_a8_r2p3_trm.pdf

and the iMX515 data sheet here

http://cache.freescale.com/files/dsp/doc/data_sheet/IMX51CEC.pdf?pspll=1

How much of the chip pinout is accessible from other locations on the board?

I see you have serial and usb already, how about jtag? (so we can reflash uboot safely)

Hi,
Yep we have most of the data-sheets in the DL section.

Serial is finished

USB development has ground to a halt, specifically because one lane is routed through a buffer chip (USB3317). The PCB had a really badly soldered 3317 chip , that looked like re-work.
Current plan:
  • Check to see if Kernel has support for USB3317
  • Check if chip is defective

Unfortunately not all the  BGA pins are accessible, it would be a wet dream if they were, also the PCB is 4 layer and there appears to be some buried vias.

JTAG : I'm still looking,  the boot loader is actually situated on the SDCard, obviously the integral iMX51 boot-loader is not currently accessible.
Hc.

Outputs 40,41, 42 and con6 are what?

39 is power according to the other post (probably should merge willies post and this one for clarity)

J42: Subsystem power output under the control of CPU/ MC13892 Power chip
J41: RS232
J40: USB but has issues, that i'm looking into.
J39: Power connects to J9 on power board
J6 : Some sort of video

What i'm trying not to do is 'Rats nest' the posts, because I hate that on other forums, where the data is all over the place.

The biggest issue is trying to get hold of circuit diagrams, followed by the mods they made to the linux kernel / U-Boot loader.

Possibly you need to disconnect the battery, to force a re-boot.

I have seen situations where it is possible for these damned tablets to enter power-down mode, but then be totally unrecoverable, via normal means, even by pressing both "vol" buttons and the power switch to force a reboot.

The only reliable method was to kill the battery power.
