2.3.3.0626 images for A8 G10

A8 SD IMAGE 4GB

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TOSUHJWC part2
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4DJVU16N part3
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I7KHMBT3 part 4

G10 SD IMAGE 4GB

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HQAAD8FY part 2
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XJ5LJFY7 part3
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YSB6VJ56 part4

Strange but i cannot find a single file in this G10 4GB IMAGE. Even the first partition that should be fat32 is completely blank!
Anyone confirms this or has an idea what i'm doing wrong.

Flashed with USBit and Winimage (2nd attempt). no success.

Cheers

I have installed this on my two screw single speaker 8" pad.  I must have re-written this image to my card three or four times and hung at the touchscreen calibration a dozen or more times before it finally finished calibration, just before I was going to bypass it......  I have no idea what was different from my first try to my last so your luck may vary.

I can confirm that the following works for me :
Hibernation
Rotation - Even the home screen
Wifi
Ethernet (through a USB 10/100 Ethernet card) - Turns the wifi off to do it, and seems to be dhcp only - at least I cannot find any place to set an IP.

And these don't work for me :
Google Android Market : Launches, connects but will not download or install any apps. Have tried the gapps from xda - that gives the same results.
No-Name Chinese Market app : Might be the way I'm driving it, but I couldn't get it to work.
ADB over usb : Dunno just plain doesn't work.
Bluetooth Audio : (via USB bluetooth dongle) You can pair and connect an audio device to the unit, it just won't use it.
The browser in the image seems to disable downloading apks from the web.
Recovery image seems only to lead to a screen suggesting that you plug the usb cable in....

And the bad news : Flash 10.2 downloaded from xda installs and runs, but crawls along being juddery and unwatchable.  Audio also seems to not be working inside flash apps.  Was almost perfect on Froyo.

Worse news : Gingerbreak 1.2 won't root this image.

My unit did come with a camera but I have no use for it, nor do I have any faith in the software not to use it, so it is physically disconnected.

If I've not mentioned it I've probably not tested it.

Hope this post helps someone...

Yep......
I do not know what the hell is going on with screen calibration under these new roms.
Still messing about trying to get one of these updated rom images to work past the calibration screen.

All I can recommend is that any users, make sure they either have a backup image of the old SD card, or use a completely new SD card for these images, I would STRONGLY recommend that you DO NOT overwrite your old image, if it is currently working.

What I may look at, is copying over the old  TS configuration files from the old image to the new one, so that the calibration is completely bypassed on startup.

HC.

FWIW

I have been reading up on the issue and I've found a possible explanation of what I did differently...  I paused between each point that it asked me to press...  This was not deliberate, just a result of me getting ready to bypass it whilst giving it one last go.  I also had it plugged into my pc's usb.

Alternatively if we can identify the settings it writes I can read them from my unit and you can write them to yours.  I've had a quick look around the filesystem and it looks like the magic file is not "TouchCheck.xml" in gingerbread....

I'm guessing you are already aware of the fix for Froyo, but I'll link to it for others who might not. http://myapad.wordpress.com/2010/07/04/how-to-force-screen-calibration-on-your-apad/

Mmmmm it's not /etc/pointercal either.....

Do you have a /data/system/calibration file ?

If not the content should be :
Code: [Select]
53430
0
-1435870
0
-43690
41592940

YES~ really "bugs"... and what I have done to pass the calibration : 1) touch each cross SLOWLY. 2) NEVER....NEVER touch the TP right after the 5 pts...  3) around 10s u will see the "ANDROID" words--> passed!!... I updated 1pc G10, 2 pcs A8 (single speaker) ....

My further exp. after test:
batt indication: fail
root: NO!!!
USB driver to PC: fail
batt life: GOOD!!! 4hrs at least

As I have yet to put my tablet back together since I got it, making swapping boot cards easy, I decided to play with this image some more, here are my results.

ROOT
Extracting su.png and superuser.png from the GingerBreak 1.2 apk, renaming them to su and Superuser.apk and putting them with the correct permissions and attributes in the correct places on the card gets you root.

RECOVERY PARTITION
The partition table is messed up in this image, I cleaned it up somewhat by removing partition 6 which seemed to start and end well beyond the 4gb that this image is.  I fixed this with fdisk under linux which also fixed some other error it noticed.  Sadly this did not fix the missing /cache mount.  It does seem to reveal a "recovery" partition that seems to have appeared from nowhere.

MARKET or "/cache"
I had hoped that re-enabling the /cache mount might re-enable the Market. Having root and offline write access to the system partition allowed me to edit the vold.fstab to create a /cache mountpoint.  It refused to automount my extsd probably because I have no idea what I'm doing, so I manually mount it after boot.
Things are not quite that simple though.  I had upgraded to the latest market, and it was giving me the "insufficient space" error.  This has now decided that it will not connect to the server.  Dropping back to the market that ships with this image results in the most unhelpful  "Download unsuccessful please try again".

I hope someone finds this of use.

If possible it is always a good idea not to use someone else's 4GB image, The correct way to prepare such a big image is to completely clear out the card first, then perform the update of the OS.

Whilst writing out the image is done on a block basis, there are sections within the SDcard that retain the previous crap, plus you may hit bad storage area in a card that has been doing the rounds a bit.

When you then try to compress the image of the SD card down, it results in  images that are massive, or can contain personal information.
